San Quentin (1946) DVD

The warden of San Quentin State Prison (Harry Shannon) takes three of his best-behaved model prisoners to a press event in San Francisco, but Nick Taylor (Barton MacLane) escapes en route. The warden enlists an old enemy of Taylor's, Jim Roland (Lawrence Tierney), to bring him back to justice.

The film comes with a prologue with former Sing Sing warden Lewis E. Lawes advocating the inmates' Mutual Welfare League.

The Devil Thumbs a Ride (1947)

Steve Morgan (Lawrence Tierney) is a charming sociopath who has just killed a man during a robbery in San Diego. Seeking to escape, he hitches a ride to Los Angeles with unsuspecting Jimmy 'Fergie' Ferguson (Ted North). Part way the pair stops at a gas station and pick up two women. Encountering a roadblock, Morgan persuades the party to spend the night at an unoccupied beach house. With the help of an alert gas station attendant (Glen Vernon), the police close in as one by one Morgan begins a killing spree.
